NOTE!
1)The project is aimed to be delivered through a mobile device. 2) The website functionality is not fully deployed yet. Since I combined the project with another course, but the thesis from the “critical experience” course is the foundation of the project development, I will still need some time to build the 3D web experience. Project Statement
“Entry Point by Encounter” is mainly a web experience on a user’s phone device.
The protagonist of this designed experience wears a shirt printed with a QR code and walks into the street. By scanning this QR code, curious passengers can enter the application online. A series of online activities will be conducted, including getting records of the passengers visiting timestamps and geographical information, which will be stored in the backend database.
The database can later be used by the code owner as a securing device to protect oneself from illegitimate governing actions.
At the end of this web experience, the passenger, or at this moment the “user” will be led into an online gallery where fictional anti-epidemic design measures are exhibited in the virtual space.
The goal of the project
At the end of October 2022, I woke up to 79 missed phone calls over one night. The phone number appeared from different sources and I just got up, all confused. So I picked the number that seemed called the most and a man picked up the phone. He was from a police station nearby my apartment though he told me he just picked up the shift and did not know who exactly called me so many times at 3 am last night. So I continued on the list and called each one of them. Some were from community hospitals, some were from the district center of disease control. Finally, my phone call went through to the neighborhood committee and a lady told me that my health code data determined I had close contact with a covid-positive patient and I would possibly soon be picked up by CDC’s bus and sent to a quarantine camp.
For this final project, I wanted to focus my research on the direction of infrastructure that has been changed and implemented in China since the 2019 breakout of Covid-19.
